Faith and Ethics Network for the International Criminal Court: Preventing Sexual Violence Against Women and Girls
In a parallel event for the CSW held at the BIC offices, Jagoda Paukovic, senior policy advisor for Justitia et Pax Netherlands, presented a manual titled "Preventing Sexual Violence Against Women and Girls, at the BIC offices
Much of Ms. Paukovic's work was in the Democratic Republic of Congo, which has been at civil war since 1990. Rape has been used as a weapon of war on a mass scale not only on women, but also on children and babies. In response to the consequences of these atrocities, she participated with the National Justice and Peace Commission in DRC to produce a manual to facilitate attitude-changing dialogues in conflict-ridden areas.
Using a multidisciplinary approach that focused on the legal, psychosocial and medical aspects, the workshops sought to promote human rights, stop sexual violence, and initiate discussion on taboos and local stereotypes. Participants included the victims and the perpetrators of sexual violence.
The manual addresses: needs analysis, strategy planning, coordination, training and other activities especially related to capacity building, promotion of social cohesion and the rule of law.
