Brazil: Congressmen raise concerns in House of Representatives

22 August 2012

Brazilian Federal Deputies Luiz Couto and Roberto de Lucena shared reports of intensifying persecution of Baha’is in Iran with the House of Representatives. “Those who know the Baha’is anywhere in the world are well aware that these people are peaceful and dedicated to the promotion of equality and justice in the communities where they reside…” said Mr. de Lucena. “Even with such universal principles, even without engaging in any partisan political activity, the Baha’is in Iran are being widely persecuted by the authoritarian regime of the Iranian government. Brazil cannot be complicit with the restriction of the right to religious freedom of Baha'is or other religious groups that are also persecuted…We need to unite to demand an end to the progressive violence.”
