The Archbishop of Canterbury, the Roman Catholic Archbishop of Westminster, the Chief Rabbi of the United Hebrew Congregations of the Commonwealth and the Assistant Secretary General of the Muslim Council of Great Britain, have joined a call for seven Baha’i leaders jailed in Iran to be released. In a statement, the United Kingdom’s religious leaders say they view the imprisonment as a gross violation of the fundamental human right to freedom of religion. They urge governments to call on the Iranian authorities to review the decision to imprison the Baha’i leaders and to cease harassing the Baha’i community.
