Universities Australia: “Serious injustice must be remedied”

14 July 2011

The organization that represents all 39 of Australia’s universities has raised the issue of the attack on the Baha’i Institute for Higher Education with the Secretary-General of UNESCO. “Australian universities are united in their strong support for facilitating access to education for all, irrespective of religious faith,” the letter from Universities Australia said. “We have previously written to express concern about the difficulties Iranian Baha’i were having in accessing tertiary education in that country.” The letter said that the organization was concerned to learn that the situation appears to have worsened. Copies of the letter were also sent to UN Secretary-General, Ban Ki-moon, Australian Foreign Affairs Minister Kevin Rudd, and the Iranian ambassador to Australia.
